Aerospace Vehicle Survivability Facility (AVSF)


Skyward Ltd. is teamed with Jacobs Technology, Inc. and InDyne, Inc. to support the Aerospace Vehicle Survivability Facility (AVSF). Skyward provides AVSF customers with unparalleled expertise to plan and conduct their test and/or analysis program. Skyward's expertise has significantly contributed to the great success enjoyed by programs who use the AVSF.

The AVSF is operated by the Air Force's Aerospace Survivability and Safety Operating Location (46 TG/OL-AC) at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH. The mission of the AVSF is to conduct research, development, test and evaluation of combat survivable aerospace vehicles by testing the system performance of today's and tomorrow's weapon systems and system components under realistic threat conditions. It is the Air Force Center of Expertise for vulnerability Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E). LFT&E Programs performed at the AVSF include AMRAAM, C-17, AC-130U, B-1, C-130J, F-22, C-5, F-35 and Joint Cargo Aircraft.

The Aerospace Survivability and Safety Operating Location is part of the 46th Test Wing, 46th Test Group, headquartered at Holloman AFB, NM.

The AVSF consists of five major test sites:
  • Site 1: Indoor Test Site - Range 1
  • Site 2: Outdoor Test Site - Range 2
  • Site 3: Main Site (outdoor) - Range 3
  • Site 4: Indoor Ballistic Research Range - Range A
  • Site 5: Aircraft Engine Nacelle Facility (indoor) - AEN
The AVSF includes complementary support buildings and equipment consisting of a range control building, with data collection/reduction and test control rooms; a fuel control system for fuel distribution and conditioning; an engine stand consisting of seven TF-33 engines to provide high speed airflow for realistic testing; fire extinguishing capabilities; and a complete fabrication/machine shop for aircraft test specimen fabrication, preparation, and instrumentation.
